Startup camp
I was down in London last week to attend the Startup Camp that took place on March 7th and 8th. Some really interesting talks and some useful breakout sessions in the afternoon and Saturday morning, ‘unconference style’.
I really liked David Berlind’s (cofounder of MySQL) talk, it was really interesting to learn about the history of MySQL, the decisions they had to make during the years leading to the recent acquisition of MySQL by Sun Microsystems for $1b!
View the list of attendees on the Startup Camp Wiki, or view the StartUp schedule – they said they will be putting up the presentations and other notes too, so watch this space!
There were lots of interesting people to meet, from bloggers to freelancers to entrepreneurs. I’ll be publishing such events in advance going forward as I believe they can be really useful and interesting.

Apple will not be using Flash on the iPhone
What a week it must be for Adobe – first, Microsoft lands a big deal with Nokia meaning that instead of Adobe Flash, Nokia phones will be supporting Microsoft’s Silvelight instead (I have to admin I didn’t see this coming, in fact I initially thought Silverlight didn’t stand much chance against Flash but apparently it’s becoming more and more popular with developers); and then, Steve Jobs comes out and says that there will be no Flash on the iPhone. Ouch!!!
At the moment, Silverlight is looking good in the fight against Flash – anyone has tried Silverlight yet? Do let me know how you find it. I’ve seen a few demos when it first came out and they were pretty impressive, but demos almost always are.
If anyone has already done any freelance Silverlight work do let me know how rates are 😉

Welcome to my new blog!
In the past few years it has become a pain to maintain my personal website so eventually I gave in and decided to take the easy way out and create my first blog!
Be sure to check back often or subscribe by RSS because I’ll be posting some pretty cool info that I believe all freelance web designers should be aware of! Hopefully by following my blog you will be able to keep in touch with the major developments in the web arena.
Similarly if you know something that I don’t or would like to see a particular topic covered, feel free to post it here as comments and I will do my best to do it. If you have an interesting blog on web design or freelancing, please do let me know and I’ll subscribe to it!
